Step 1: Basic Shape Framework

Nate Lindley demonstrates how to sketch a baseball catcher using line drawing of the fundamental shapes. Tip: Break down complicated pictures into their simplest forms. Work in a loose and light manner, as the majority of these lines will be deleted.

Step 2: Improving the Basic Shapes

Nate Lindley demonstrates how to create a baseball catcher in line drawing of the fundamental structure. Consider the scale and relationship between distinct forms while creating your design. Keep the lines light until you are convinced that the items are appropriately positioned and proportioned.

Step 3: Forming Complex Shapes

Nate Lindley demonstrates how to sketch a baseball catcher using line drawing to create complicated shapes. Tip: Do not be concerned with getting every smudge off the piece of artwork. Those smudges might sometimes leave a subtle detail that can serve as an inspiration when it comes to completing the painting.

Step 4: Skill-Level Finishing

Artist Nate Lindley has created a fully rendered piece of artwork entitled “how to draw people (baseball player / catcher).” Make careful to vary the strength of your lines and to make the most of your usage of value throughout your artwork. It will be flat if every line is precisely the same and there is no change in the values along the way. Make use of both bold and fine lines, as well as highlights and shadows, to make the composition more aesthetically appealing.

How to Draw a Baseball Batter (Overview)

To begin, sketch an oval for the body. Then, for the head, draw a smaller oval or circle on top of the body, as seen below. Remove the top connecting line that connects the head with the rest of the body.

Step 2. Draw the arms and hands.

Begin with the right arm, which is the most difficult. Due to the fact that we are looking at the picture, we will create a drawing from our own perspective. Draw a curving rectangle on the left side of the face, starting at the bottom of the head and ending at the chest. Remove the connecting line that runs through the body. Let’s start with the left arm first. Draw a curved line from the opposite side of the head to the front of the body, then remove the lines that link the two halves of the body.

Step 3. Draw the legs and feet.

Draw two rectangles below the body that are bent to the left. Erasing the connecting lines allows you to draw a straight line between the body and legs, which will serve as a guide for drawing the pants or shorts. Then, for the feet, draw two little ovals below the legs, one on each side. Finally, draw two curving lines above the ankle to indicate the location of the socks.

Step 4. Add an ear and the hair

Create an ear by drawing a curved line on the left side of the skull, as shown. Because our baseball player is viewed from the side, we are unable to see his other ear. Draw straight lines for the contour of the hair, then shade in the inside.

Step 5. Draw the baseball bat.

Draw a long thin oval on the top of the right hand to represent the bat, followed by a little square below the left hand to represent the bottom of the handle’s bottom.

Step 6. Draw the uniform and baseball cap.

Baseball players dress in uniforms, which are commonly referred to as jerseys, that are typically v-necked and short-sleeved. Draw a v-shape at the base of the head, and then a line down the arm for the short sleeves to be attached to the shirt. Light straight-line patterns should be added to the shirt before adding a logo. ‘A’ was drawn in the middle of our drawing. You are free to design any logo you like for your baseball star! Let’s try to sketch a baseball cap. After you’ve erased the top section of the head, you’ll need to draw a U-shaped form for the visor.

Step 7. Draw the face and add details.

Our baseball player should have a happy expression on his face, should we? In order to make the eyes, draw two little circles around them, then a straight line around them, and then another curved line around them for the grin. You may make it as large as possible, precisely as in the photo, to demonstrate a very pleased gamer! We’re getting close to finishing our drawing! All that remains is for us to fill in the blanks. To begin, draw a thin rectangle at the top of the pants to serve as a belt buckle opening.

Finally, make little spikes on the bottoms of the shoes to serve as cleats for the shoes.

Part 2. Baseball Pitcher

To create the baseball batter, we start with an oval for the body and a circle for the head, similar to how we draw a baseball.

Step 2. Draw the arm that throws the ball.

In contrast to our initial drawing, this time the pitcher’s back is towards us. Draw an upward-pointing rectangle from the side of the head. Remove the connecting line by erasing it.

Step 3. Draw the legs.

Draw two rectangles that are bent to the left, below the body, and connect them with a line. Remove all of the connecting lines.

Step 4. Draw the hand and feet.

A tiny circle for the hand and two ovals for the feet or shoes should be drawn on the paper.

Step 5. Draw the baseball glove and cap.

Let’s start with the left hand and add some fingers to it. To make five little ovals on the hand, draw a connecting line between them and erase it. A downward rectangle below the left arm should be drawn to represent the baseball glove. Create a glove by drawing a larger and more rounded hand.

Step 6. Draw the hair and uniform details.

Let’s create a female baseball pitcher for a change. Create a ponytail at the back of your head. Draw a little curve for the ear and a dot for the side eye on the face to finish it out. For the nose, make a smaller curve than the rest of the face. After that, add finishing touches such as a short sleeve and a belt, as well as socks and cleats. Wow! We’ve got a likable baseball batter and a pleasant baseball pitcher on our hands. More players should be drawn in order to form a baseball team.

Tips for art-mazing success:

  • Fill in the blanks with color to make your drawings more vivid. Add extra elements to your painting and use them to create a compelling tale
  • Drawing a baseball field, and even a baseball team, is possible.

Step 4. Add an ear and the hair

Create an ear by drawing a curved line on the left side of the skull, as shown. Because our baseball player is viewed from the side, we are unable to see his other ear. Draw straight lines for the contour of the hair, then shade in the inside.

A baseball skills video is a vital asset in the recruitment process and should not be overlooked. As a technique to sell themselves and raise their awareness among college coaches, athletes might consider it a positive experience. Athletics can utilize a baseball skills video as a “hook” in their communications with college coaches, which can help them get noticed and begin the assessment process. View information on baseball camps, showcases, and combines, or read this other post about NCSAAAU baseball competitions for further information.

Baseball recruiting video tips

Sportspeople should remember that coaches are solely concerned with what a recruit can perform on the field. By displaying their baseball talents rather than generating a video that is overproduced with special effects, dramatic music, and quick-cut editing, athletes will create a stronger first impression. Take a look at the information about baseball camps, showcases, and combining opportunities. Tips for filmmaking in general to keep in mind:

  • A skills film should showcase the athlete to their greatest ability while also capturing the attention of the coach. Is the athlete able to move at a high rate? Do they have a fastball that goes 92 miles per hour? How well do they do at throwing out runners at home from the outfield? If at all feasible, families should use a tripod to elevate the camera about 5 feet above the ground. They may even purchase a smartphone tripod to use with their device! As a result, many coaches will quickly skip on to the next player video rather than sit through footage that is not solid and steady. Baseball coaches want to watch a video of an athlete’s abilities at their position in order to evaluate them. In a 2018 poll of college baseball coaches conducted by the National Collegiate Baseball Coaches Association, we asked coaches what they look for while seeing a skills video. These were the top five responses: mechanics
  • Speed
  • Athleticism
  • Power
  • And body language
  • In that order. It is best not to film behind a fence or a backstop. The camera’s field of vision should never be obscured. Always stretch and warm up before beginning filming. Athletes should dress in a relaxed and natural manner
  • They should look the part. The use of a uniform is preferable
  • However, spiked shoes and pants or shorts, as well as a shirt and helmet that are tucked in, are also recommended. Always leave coaches with a want to see more of you. Families should restrict their movies to five minutes or less in length, and they should start with their most impressive talents.

What is the difference between a recruiting video and skills video?

There is no distinction between a recruitment film and a skills video in baseball. Unlike many other sports, where a recruiting video is a collection of your finest plays from actual games, coaches like to watch particular shots during practice in order to get a better understanding of your mechanics and overall game strategy. The problem with game video is that it frequently does not allow the camera to shoot in the appropriate location to provide coaches with the perspectives they need. We’ll go over the kind of viewpoints and perspectives that coaches are looking for in a recruiting skills video in the section below.

Producing an instructional film showing your baseball talents is one of the most effective methods to get your name on a coach’s radar—and because instructional movies don’t require specialized settings or expensive equipment, they can be shot very easily on your own!

  • Drills for the fundamentals: live BP, tee work, and front toss throws
  • Catching and blocking, as well as receiving and blocking
  • Footwork, arm strength, and release are all important. 8-10 repetitions from a variety of angles (behind, side, or any other angle that demonstrates the mechanics of the play)

How to get your baseball recruiting video seen by college coaches

There are a few significant areas that recruits should put their video online in order to increase the likelihood of it being viewed by college coaches. These include:

  • YouTube or Vimeo: Families should begin by posting a video of their baseball talents to a video-sharing website such as YouTube or Vimeo. This will accomplish two objectives: It’s possible that coaches looking for baseball skills videos will come upon it. Recruits will have a link to their video that they may use in emails to college coaches, on their social media profiles, and other places
  • This is very significant. To maximize the number of views and shares of their films, recruits can follow and friend coaches and programs on their target school list on social media sites. NCSArecruitingprofile: If a recruiting profile contains a video showing highlights or talents, it is at least 12 times more probable that the profile will be seen than if the profile does not include one. In addition to this, an athlete’s NCSA profile provides additional crucial information that coaches check for when evaluating prospects
  • For example, Athletes might also consider submitting a physical copy of their video to their coaches. Emails are unbeatable for ease and time management, but a coach may receive as many as 100 emails each month, depending on the situation. Sending a DVD in the mail is a tried-and-true method of making a statement.

Recruiting video for pitchers

After you’ve completed your warm-up, start recording these pitches. If someone is recording, they should make certain that the catcher is always showing signs of catching the ball. There are two possible camera angles from which to film pitches: from behind the mound, and from either behind the right-handed pitcher’s box or the left-handed pitcher’s box, depending on which pitcher is throwing.

Film half of the pitches from one camera angle and the other half from a different camera angle. Set up the camera three feet to the right of the mound and five feet behind the mound for RHPs in order to be able to see ball movement. LHPs should be on the left side of the field. Show:

  • Out of the wind-up, ten different pitches are thrown, with fastballs accounting for at least five of them. A total of ten different pitches come out of the stretch, with fastballs accounting for at least five of those deliveries

It is recommended that the following set of pitches be recorded using a camera placed three feet behind the right-handed batter’s box for RHP and three feet behind the left-handed batter’s box for LHP, respectively. Show:

  • Out of the wind-up, ten different pitches are thrown, with fastballs accounting for at least five of them. There are ten different pitches coming out of the stretch, with at least five fastballs among them

  • Pitches for blocking (five pitches immediately in front of you, five pitches to your left, and five pitches to your right)

Half of the footage was shot with the camera angle three feet behind the second baseman and the other half with the camera angle two feet behind the catcher. The second baseman must be shown catching the ball from every angle possible in the footage. Show: Position the camera three feet behind the catcher in order to capture the best viewpoint possible. The third baseman must be seen catching the ball in the film. Show: Three feet behind the plate, film with the camera angle at a 90-degree angle.

Show:

  • Mock bunts and throws to 1B (three balls up the 1B line)
  • Mock bunts and throws to 1B (three balls up the 3B line)

It is essential that the first baseman is shown catching the ball. In order to enhance range and arm strength, regardless of whether the athlete plays second base or shortstop, they must take their ground balls at second base. Show:

  • Double plays were generated by four feeds to second base
  • Four feeds were generated by the second baseman crossing the bag and making a throw to first base. When playing second base, you may also use it as a shortstop receiving from the pitcher if you’re a second baseman.
  • Four sluggish choppers come crashing down on you

Those who are not comfortable in front of the camera or who want to be certain that their skills video is of the finest possible quality may want to consider hiring specialists to complete the task for them.
