Baseball Nut Ice Cream (a copycat Baskin-Robbins recipe)
Observe how some cuisines, much like certain tunes, have the ability to take you back to a specific period of time. Baseball Nut ice cream is one of those delicacies that I enjoy eating. I didn’t intend for it to be such a perfectly round number, but it was precisely 20 years ago this summer that I decided not to return home for the summer after my freshman year of college. It was the summer after my sophomore year, and it was, in many ways, the next step in my journey toward freedom. I stayed in the tiniest room known to man in a house that had been rented by several of my friends who had already moved out of the dormitories the previous year.
- My twin bed could only fit between three of the walls, and the rest of my belongings were packed high against the fourth wall against the fourth wall.
- After a week or two, there was no hot water in the home, and it was filthy (my housemates were all males), but I was on my own and had nowhere to turn.
- I resided in East Lansing but commuted to work in Okemos, which was a three-mile round trip.
- One or two times a week, I’d stroll over to Subway and order a Subway Club with light mayo, salt, and pepper to taste.
- That’s all there is to it; nothing else.
- Despite the fact that I don’t remember how many cones I consumed that summer, I’ve only visited Baskin-Robbins a couple of times since then.
- I just came across a Facebook status update from a buddy who had just received two scoops of B-R ice cream, one of which was Baseball Nut, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.
- Okay, I’m motivated.
- I believe I was successful.
- Baseball Nut, a Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavor that I like, is recreated in this recipe using vanilla bean ice cream studded with cashews and swirled with a black raspberry ribbon, which is my personal favorite.
Every scoop is a grand slam in baseball terms. Preparation time: 15 minutes plus 6 hours in the freezer Preparation time: 8 minutes Keywords:dessert vegetarian diet that is free of soy cream with blackberries frozen ice cream with strawberries and cashews Summer in the United States
For the black raspberry ribbon, follow these steps:
- 6 ounces fresh blackberries, 6 ounces fresh raspberries, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice, 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 6 ounces fresh blackberries, 6 ounces fresh raspberries
Everything else is as follows:
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 ounces)
- 1 cup roasted, salted whole cashews
- 2 tablespoons vanilla bean paste
- 2 cups (1 pint) heavy cream, chilled
In a medium saucepan, combine all of the ingredients for the black raspberry ribbon and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Cook, stirring often and pressing the berries against the edge of the pan to release juices, for approximately 8 minutes or until the mixture is somewhat thick and jam-like in consistency. To filter the sauce, use a metal strainer set over a small mixing bowl and push down on the particles to extract as much sauce as possible; discard sediments. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until cool before continuing with the recipe.
- Heavy cream should be placed in a large mixing basin and whisked until firm peaks form.
- Pour one-third of the mixture into a loaf pan that measures 9 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.
- Scoop another third of the ice cream mixture, then another third of the cashews and black raspberry combination, and repeat the process.
- Smooth the surface with a rubber spatula or the back of a spoon, pushing softly to ensure that any cashews are completely submerged.

Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins launched Baskin-Robbins in Glendale, California, in 1945 as a frozen yogurt shop. The combination of their last names forms the name of the corporation, “Baskin-Robbins.” However, despite the fact that the firm was originally founded in Glendale, California, it is now based in Canton, Massachusetts. Dairy Queen is Baskin-Robbins’ most significant national rival since they both provide ice cream products that are comparable to Baskin-Robbins’. Baskin-Robbins costs are likewise comparable to those of Dairy Queen, however Dairy Queen tends to be slightly less expensive for its soft serve products.
Take That, Baskin-Robbins!
In the city of Dallas, there are more than 50 different kinds of ice cream to choose from. Not without a lot of effort, the organization has reached this level. An whole seminar of the North Texas Youth in Service to Christ was disrupted in 1969 when the host hotel accidentally served brandied peach ice cream as the last banquet dessert, causing the conference to be called off. Because it was too late to make any changes to the dessert, a resourceful chef just altered the menu altogether. Brandied peach was transformed into peachy-keen, and yet another ice cream flavor was created.
- When a diner requested for one “with cheese, please,” the rest is history.
- These are the types of snares that inexperienced ice cream buyers must contend with on a daily basis.
- The flavors they offered weren’t any more sophisticated than the standard chocolate-vanilla-strawberry concoctions either.
- Then, probably around the middle of the 1960s, the Great Ice Cream Revolution swept across the city and transformed it.
- It signaled the end of the straightforward ice cream selection.
- Many people then give up and accept ordinary chocolate as a consolation prize.
- And then it all starts over again.

Swensen’s is a true ice cream parlor, and it is one of the few places in the city where you can sit down and enjoy your treat.
Other ice cream shops are recognized for either their cones or their concoctions, but Swensen’s is noted for having both options.

As the company’s headquarters are located in California, all of its confections bear a distinct San Francisco flavor signature, including the Earthquake, the San Francisco Firehouse Happy Birthday, the Chocolate Ring-a-Ding, and the Gold Rush.
Swensen’s, on the other hand, is clearly superior.
The client is typically struck initially by the quantity at Swensen’s, despite the company’s efforts to promote quality.
Its 24-cent dip weighs a quarter of a pound, making it significantly larger than the normal 18-cent cone seen in most other sections of town.
Swensen’s German chocolate, for example, is much inferior to the chocolate dipped in ice cream at Baskin-Robbins.
Swensen’s chocolate divinity, a mouth-watering combination of milk chocolate, marshmallow sauce, and almonds, is perhaps the greatest of the company’s offerings.
However, there is one word of warning.
Swensen’s appears to have difficulty combining its components, and the marble on top is frequently thin and brittle.
Despite the fact that we award it three stars, we acknowledge that we have friends that give it a four-star rating.
However, the service is prompt.
The process of figuring out what the names of the flavors signify is nearly as much pleasure as actually enjoying the ice cream.
And who else except Baskin-Robbins would refer to an ice cream cone as a “baseball nut” before stuffing it with raspberries?
The corporation acknowledges that it may become overly engaged in the naming of flavors, to the point that it will frequently come up with a name first and then pass it along to the chef, who will then come up with an ice cream to match.
Furthermore, the organization appears to have a limitless supply of taste options.
A myth even circulated that Fidel Castro, a well-known ice cream connoisseur, once boasted that Cuba was on the approach of overtaking the United States in terms of the number of ice cream varieties it had developed.

Ice cream shops such as Ashburn’s, which used to be a decent choice, and Polar Bear have also fallen on hard times recently.

In addition, the ice cream is too sugary and runny.

Baskin-Robbins is an ice cream parlor franchise with locations all over the world. A total of more than 30 nations are served by its franchise network. 2800 of the 5800 sites are in the United States, accounting for 28% of the total. It was formed in 1953 as a result of the combination of two different ice cream companies owned by Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, who were married to each other at the time. Previously, the two ice cream businesses were known as Burt’s Ice Cream Shop and Snowbird Ice Cream, before coming together as a single entity.
In putting out the sample method, Baskin-Robbins used a novel approach, allowing customers to try the many kinds of ice cream using little, single-use pink plastic spoons until they found the flavor that they desired.
