MLB to honor military on Armed Forces Day
Major League Baseball has announced the roster of holiday and special-event outfits that will be worn by its players and staff throughout the 2019 season. This year, a new one has been added to the list, which will celebrate the Armed Forces on the 18th of May. Military troops and their families will be recognized throughout the weekend of Armed Forces Day, which is observed on the third Saturday in May every year, according to Major League Baseball. When Americans come together to recognize and commemorate military heroes for their patriotic sacrifices in support of the United States on this day, MLB players and club employees will don camouflage-patterned hats with their jerseys, with optional camo-themed socks, as part of the celebration.
The right side of the headwear is adorned with a five-star symbol, which represents the United States military’s five branches of service.
As Melanie LeGrande, Vice President of Social Responsibility, explained: “May is Military Appreciation Month, and coming together throughout the league to honor and support our service members, veterans, and military families on this day is a wonderful addition to our year-round programming.” Football players and on-field workers will add military-themed attire and special components to their existing outfits, while clubs will use the occasion to thank those who safeguard our liberties and way of life.
MLB will give the royalties it receives from the sale of licensed merchandise to organizations that benefit military personnel.
In his remarks, LeGrande added, “As someone who was raised by military parents, it has given me tremendous joy to witness the work that baseball has done to support those who have served our country.” Traditional holiday and special-event uniforms will be worn on other days of the year, such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day weekend, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, and the All-Star Game.
- For each event, MLB teamed with its Authentic Collection partners New Era Cap and Stance to develop custom design elements for club hats and socks.
- This year, Major League Baseball will give its licensed uniform earnings that are linked to humanitarian programs once more.
- Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (for Mother’s Day), the Prostate Cancer Foundation (for Father’s Day), and Stand Up To Cancer (for both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day) will benefit from the proceeds.
- Every player will be required to wear a matching pair of pink socks, and their usual club jerseys will be ornamented with a pink ribbon on the left breast.
- Players can also choose to wear bright blue socks if they so want.
- The logos of the American and National Leagues are also printed on the sides of the hats.
- On Canada Day, July 1, the Toronto Blue Jays will wear their red alternative jerseys with red Maple Leaf hats, as well as their red alternate uniforms.
- Depending on their league membership, athletes will wear a sleeveless, vest-style jersey in navy or red, which will be the first time since the 2000 Home Run Derby was held.
- The All-Star Game is a competition between professional athletes.
- This year’s hats are team colored and include two silver stars, one on either side of the team insignia on the front of the cap, to distinguish them from previous years.
Featuring a distinctive ASG wordmark across the back, the Stance All-Star Game socks pay homage to the host Cleveland Indians’ navy, white, and red base colors.

- As a result of widespread criticism of the Padres’ camouflage uniforms, rather than the notion of wearing camouflage to honor the troops, Major League Baseball opted to extend the concept to the whole league.
- The Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles took the concept a step further by donning camouflage jerseys, similar to those worn by the Padres, as part of their own promotional campaigns.
MLB did design a line of camouflage gear, and for the first time in 2013, the league said that all earnings would be contributed to the “Welcome Back Veterans” charity, rather than simply “a percentage,” as they had claimed in previous years.
The Mets will wear their all-camo uniforms for every home game on Monday nights, which amounts to around 5 times each year.
I promised my source that I would not divulge the identity of the other team, so I suppose you’ll just have to wait and see what happens this time.
This past month, the San Antonio Spurs revealed that they, too, will be wearing camouflage for two games scheduled later in the season.
However, you can be certain that it will occur sooner rather than later.
These jerseys are auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds going to charitable organizations of choice.
Because when you support one cause, you have to support them all, don’t you think?
I’m referring to the Bakersfield Condors, of course.
No, I’m not kidding.
What I think about the whole camo craze is as follows.
It is, in fact, true!
We must surely be able to come up with a more acceptable approach to show our respects while also generating money for a good cause.
That’s ideal, and the uniforms will be auctioned off to benefit a good cause.

Mariners to Wear Special Camo Hats Today
As a mark of respect for Independence Day, the Mariners, like with all other Major League clubs, will don camouflage-style caps today. In addition to wearing this cap on Memorial Day (May 28 at Texas), Major League Baseball players and staff will do so on September 11 as part of Major League Baseball’s fifth consecutive year of national fundraising and awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans, a program that addresses the needs of returning American Veterans and their families. Unlike past “StarsStripes” hats, this year’s design will deviate from the traditional red, white, and blue color combination that has been a fixture of the series since its inception in 2008.
This new design and feel is reminiscent of modern-day military uniforms in appearance and feel.

MLB Unveils 2019 Holiday & Special Event Uniform Elements
As a mark of respect for Independence Day, the Mariners, like with all other Major League clubs, will don camouflage-style caps on July 4. Teams in the major leagues also wore this cap on Memorial Day (on May 28 at Texas) and will do so again on September 11 as part of Major League Baseball’s fifth consecutive year of national fundraising and awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans, a program that helps returnees from the military and their families adjust to civilian life. Unlike past “StarsStripes” hats, this year’s design will deviate from the traditional red, white, and blue color combination that has been a fixture of the series since its debut in 2008.
A modern-day military uniform is reflected in the fresh design and feel of the clothing.
