AMOUNT OF WORKERS IN THE STRIKE ZONE In baseball, I’m attempting to figure out how big the strike zone is by measuring its volume. The striking zone is depicted in the following picture. Home plate is a rectangle with a triangle affixed to the wide side of the rear of the plate on one side. The home plate is 17 inches in width. This is the portion of the plate that is white. The striking zone does not include the black stripe on the right side of the field. Because just a portion of the ball must penetrate the striking zone, the width of the front half of the plate is 23 inches if you include in the size of the ball on either side and the width of the plate itself.

The height of the striking zone is both subjective and objective (?) in nature, although it is generally accepted to be around 26 inches on average.

This would correspond to a volume of 5083 cubic inches.

The triangle has a base of 23 (17+3+3) inches, which progressively reduces to 0 inches when the sides are added together.

3 inches must be added to each breadth, but not to the end point, as previously stated.
