For the 2019 season, consider the following 19 questions: What is going to happen to the Mets? Which club will be the biggest surprise in baseball? How many home runs do you think the Yankees will hit this season? All of these questions, as well as others, will be asked prior to Opening Day 2019. The following are 19 reasons why baseball will be fantastic in 2019: Your eyes and ears are slowly adjusting to the lovely sights and sounds of spring, which are ready to flood your heart with warmth after the hot stove failed to register on any thermometer for the second time in a row.

Which team will take us by surprise?

These are just a few of the 19 topics that will be on our radar once the baseball season gets underway.

‘It’s Enrico Pallazzo!’ says someone. Despite the fact that the film was released 30 years ago, the baseball-themed ending of “The Naked Gun” continues to elicit guffaws and meme-worthy pop cultural fodder. How it all came together may be found in this account.

American League 2019 guides

The American League East is a three-horse race in 2019, but that doesn’t mean the top three teams are without their own issues to contend with. Although the Astros are favorites to win the American League West entering into the season, there are still questions to be asked about each club heading into the season. AL Central:Three of the five clubs in the AL Central lost at least 98 games last season: the Royals (104), the White Sox (100), and the Tigers (98). The Royals were the only team in the division to do it (98).

Only the Cleveland Indians have maintained a consistent level of performance; the Indians haven’t finished below.500 since 2012.

National League 2019 guides

The National League East: The National League East has the potential to be the finest division in baseball in 2019. However, this does not rule out the possibility of issues being raised by any side. In the National League West, what is standing between the Dodgers and a sixth consecutive NL West title? Can the Padres bring it all together in such a short period of time? An analysis of the National League West provides the answers to these and other questions. Cubs and Brewers competed for the National League Central title last season, and both teams will be candidates for the title once again in 2019.

And while the Pirates are unlikely to challenge for first place, they are far from being written off.

2019 MLB Opening Day: Final scores, schedule for the first full day of games of the regular season baseball

1 minute read on March 28, 2019 at 10:46 p.m. Eastern Time The first game of the season has come and gone. With all due respect to last week’s Japan Series, the 2019 Major League Baseball regular season got underway on Thursday. All 30 teams were in play, with 15 games taking place during the afternoon and nighttime hours. Spring training games may be entertaining in their own right. Nothing, however, comes close to the experience of significant baseball. On the first full day of 2019, Bryce Harper made his major league debut with the Philadelphia Phillies (wearing Phillie Phanatic cleats), the Los Angeles Dodgers blasted an Opening Day record eight home runs, and Jordan Zimmermann came close to pitching a perfect game against the Chicago Cubs.

  • In order to rescue Opening Day, Lorenzo Cain stole a home run. When it came to a battle of aces on Opening Day, Jacob deGrom came out on top. The Mets won their first game of the season on Opening Day, thanks to some big-name signings. The Nationals began 2019 with a setback that seemed all too familiar
  • It was their third straight loss. Against the Braves, the Phillies’ new-look lineup helped them to a victory. The Reds were able to capitalize on a number of offseason acquisitions that went relatively unnoticed. Luke Voit was able to take up just where he left off from the previous season. Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred was questioned about the sport’s economic woes.

Opening Day storylines

Familiar people in unfamiliar settings On Opening Day, we’ll have a chance to see the majority of this offseason’s marquee free agents in action for their respective new teams. Bryce Harper and Manny Machado both inked multi-year contracts with their respective organizations, breaking previous records. Harper signed a 13-year, $330 million deal with the Phillies, while Machado agreed to a 10-year, $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres. Additionally, fans will get their first official glimpse of A.J.

  1. New-look NL East (National League) The National League East has been transformed into a division with four serious contenders as a result of the offseason’s additions.
  2. The Philadelphia Phillies had a “stupid” amount of money to spend this summer, so they went out and signed superstar hitter Bryce Harper, as well as four more All-Stars in Andrew McCutchen, David Robertson, J.T.
  3. The Nationals were without Harper, but they were able to remain competitive for the remainder of the season with the additions of starting pitcher Patrick Corbin, catchers Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki, second baseman Brian Dozier, and first baseman Matt Adams.
  4. Even the New York Mets made changes this offseason, believing that the acquisitions of Robinson Cano, Keon Broxton, Jed Lowrie, and Wilson Ramos will provide them with more offensive punch in their lineup than they had previously.
  5. As part of the Opening Day lineup, the Mets will face off against Washington, while the Braves will face off against Philadelphia.

Here’s your guide for Opening Day

When the Mariners defeated the Athletics in two consecutive games in the Tokyo Dome in Japan last week, it signaled the start of the season for both clubs. As part of a jam-packed, action-packed schedule, Seattle and Oakland will start regular season play today, and the other 28 clubs will follow suit.

Opening Day in Washington, D.C., will mark the beginning of a new era for the Nationals, who haven’t played a season opening without Bryce Harper since late April of 2012, when he made his Major League debut.

If he hits a home run, he would become the youngest player in team history to do it in a season opening, just edging out Bryce Harper, who did so at the age of 20 years, 167 days in 2013.

on ESPN.

As a bonus, the Red Sox had won their last three series against the Yankees (1972, 2002, and 2009).

The 2018 White Sox (against the Royals), who received three home runs from Matt Davidson alone, and the 1988 Mets have the record for the most home runs hit by a club in an Opening Day game with six (against the Expos).

between the Cardinals and the Brewers.

Louis Cardinals, Yadier Molina has started 14 consecutive Opening Day games.

It’s also the longest active streak at any position with a single squad in the history of the sport.

More Braves at.

After all, he’s hit five of them in his career, which ties him with Ian Kinsler and Albert Pujols for the most in the majors among currently active players.

As a result, Teheran will make his sixth consecutive Opening Day start for the Braves, which would tie the franchise’s Modern Era record set by Warren Spahn, who started six consecutive Opening Day games for them from 1957 to 1962.

Further, the Tigers will take against the Blue Jays (3:37 p.m.): Miguel Cabrera has started 11 straight Opening Day games for the Tigers, and he’ll make it 12 straight today against the Blue Jays.

But he has a long way to go to catch Kaline.

In addition, he began a 2016 Toronto victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2018, George Springer of the Houston Astros became the first player in history to hit a leadoff home run on back-to-back Opening Days.

Yogi Berra, Gary Carter, and Todd Hundley have the record for the most consecutive seasons with an Opening Day home run, which is four.

More When: 4:05 p.m.

Rangers: This will be the ninth Opening Day Interleague game in history – which makes sense, given that Interleague games were previously reserved for later months until 2013, when the Astros transferred to the AL, making it 15 clubs in each league.

It will also be the Cubs’ second Interleague opener, following their victory over the Angels in the first contest in 2016.

Everyone’s attention will be focused on Mike Trout, who recently signed a 12-year contract worth $426.5 million dollars.

First and foremost, the Angels won their season opener in 2013, which also happened to be the last time they did so before losing five straight.

Instead, Hyun-Jin Ryu will take the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Opening Day, becoming the team’s first non-Kershaw pitcher to do so since Vicente Padilla did it in 2010.

Seager has been out since April 29.

Pollock will make his Dodgers debut as well, having joined as a free agent in the winter after spending the first seven years of his professional career with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

More The Pittsburgh Pirates will take on the Cincinnati Reds at 4:10 p.m.

The Reds have only opened their season on the road three times in their history: in 1877 and 1966, as a result of rain, and in 1990, as a result of the scheduling.

Joey Votto will make his 11th consecutive Opening Day start at first base, tying him for the most by a Reds first baseman in franchise history.

Taillon is making his first career start just two seasons after undergoing cancer surgery.

Although he will be making his first road start of the season, it is worth mentioning that he established the franchise’s single-season record for home ERA (minimum of 10 starts) last year.

When was the last time they were victorious?

More On Opening Day, Corey Kluber will take the mound for the Indians for the fifth consecutive season, tying Stan Coveleski’s franchise record of five straight seasons set between 1917 and 1920.

Cleveland will open the season against Minnesota for the first time since 2004, and only the second time since 1964.

Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Minnesota Twins, making him the tenth pitcher to get that assignment for the team since Johan Santana was previously assigned to the role in 2007.

The Padres’ $300 million man has yet to hit a home run on Opening Day in his career.

The Padres will play host to the Giants, who will be led by ace Madison Bumgarner, who will make his fifth career Opening Day start, tying Larry Jansen for the third-most in the franchise’s Modern Era.

It will be the final Opening Day for manager Bruce Bochy, who, as it happens, previously managed the Padres before taking over as manager of the Giants.

More White Sox vs Royals (4:15 p.m.): The White Sox will be aiming for a replay of last year’s season-opening slugfest at Kauffman Stadium, which ended in a tie.

Although Davidson is no longer a member of the organization, this game could mark the professional debut of top prospect Eloy Jimenez, who recently signed a six-year extension with the team.

Outfielder Alex Gordon, on the other hand, is on pace to make it nine in a row.

Now, the Red Sox will begin their defense of their World Series title against the Mariners, who have already begun their season in the country of Japan.

The Red Sox are playing the Mariners for the first time since 2000, when Pedro Martinez delivered a masterpiece in a 2-0 win at Fenway Park to kick off the season for Boston.

More TO BE AWARE OF OPENING DAY RECORDS In all cases, unless otherwise stated, the records date back to 1908.

Opening Day 2018 was remarkable for a variety of reasons, one of which being Davidson’s three-homer performance for the White Sox, which tied the team’s all-time Opening Day record (and started a season-long crushing of the Royals by Davidson).

He did so for the Blue Jays against the Royals.

Furthermore, on Opening Day 2005, Da Meat Hook scored three runs for the Tigers against the Royals.

(tie) Brandon Alyea (2003) and Corey Patterson (2003) (1970) Tony Oliva, an eight-time All-Star, and Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew rounded out the Twins’ starting lineup in 1970, when Alyea set the record with a home run.

At Shea Stadium in 2003, the Cubs’ Patterson, the No.

His day also included four singles and two huge flies as the Cubs rolled to a 15-2 victory.

(tie) The following players were born in the year 2005: Aaron Miles (2005), Craig Biggio (2001), Jeff Kent (1998), Nellie Fox (’59), Dale Mitchell (1950), Harlond Clift (’37), Billy Herman (’36), Ty Tyson (’27), Babe Ruth (’21), Larry Doyle (2015, Eddie Collins (2013, Bobby Byrne (11), and Babe Ruth (2001).

  • That brought to a close a seven-year streak in which three different players had five hits in the first inning.
  • The majority of strikeouts on Opening Day: Camilo Pascual is 15 years old (April 18, 1960) On Opening Day 1960, the Washington Senators’ right-hander struck out 15 batters in a full game victory over the Boston Red Sox, setting a new record for the most strikeouts in a season opening.
  • Ted Williams gets a home run on his final Opening Day at the plate.
  • (April 14, 1925) In a wild 21-14 victory over the Browns, the Indians broke the franchise record for runs scored on Opening Day.
  • The Browns committed 10 mistakes in the game, which equaled them for the most in franchise history.
  • After hitting a home run in the second, tripled in the fourth, doubled in the fifth, and then singled to cap his cycle in the seventh, Walker went on to complete it in reverse order.
  • Feller was just 21 years old when he shut out the Chicago White Sox on a stormy day in the Windy City, and he did so in style.

The majority of Opening Day starts (pitchers) are as follows: Tom Seaver, 16 years old Seaver was known by two monikers: “The Franchise” and “Tom Terrific,” and his Opening Day record attests to the truth of both.

He was, of course, sensational in those openers, going 7-2 with a 3.13 ERA and 81 strikeouts, which is the second-highest total in franchise history.

When it comes to season openers, Morris has a lifetime ERA of 3.39.

The most number of victories on Opening Day: Walter Johnson, age nine On Opening Day, the Big Train was a colossal beast.

Twelve of the starts resulted in entire games, with seven of them resulting in complete shutouts.

The most number of saves on Opening Day: 6.

Fingers and K-Rod are two of the most successful closers in the history of the game, and they’re tied for the most saves on Opening Day of all time.

Rodriguez also saved season openers for the Angels, Mets, Brewers, and Tigers.

It should come as no surprise that one of the most feared strikeout artists in baseball history would be at the top of the list of Opening Day strikeouts.

The most home runs on Opening Day: eight (tie) Adam Dunn, Ken Griffey Jr., and Frank Robinson each hit a home run in the first game of the season for their respective clubs.

All of The Kid’s Opening Day home runs came with the Mariners, including two against the Yankees on the first day of the season in 1997.

The majority of first-day hits are as follows: Pete Rose is 31 years old.

Charlie Hustle had 31 hits in the first game of the season, including three three-hit games in 1974, 1976, and 1981, as well as eight other multihit games in the first game of the season.

Because of the National League’s establishment in 1876, the Cubs have won more Opening Day games than any other team in MLB history, including a victory over the Marlins last year.

The Mets had the best winning % on Opening Day, with a.649 mark.

It’s worth noting that the Mets have lost their first eight Opening Day games since their inception in 1962 (even the Miracle Mets of 1969 have lost their season opener). However, the Mets’ second World Series run in 1986 did begin with a victory on Opening Day.

1 amazing fact for each Opening Day game

Following the Athletics and Mariners’ successful debuts in Japan last week, all 30 clubs were in play on Thursday, from coast to coast, in the United States. One interesting tidbit (or more!) from each of the 15 Opening Day games today is presented here for your enjoyment. The Mets defeated the Nationals 2-0. During this game, Jacob deGrom, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, faced up against Max Scherzer, the runner-up, who had won the award in each of the previous two seasons.

  • It was only the second occasion in history that two starting pitchers in the same Opening Day game both had double-digit strikeout totals, joining Dave McNally (13) of the Orioles and Sam McDowell (11) of the Indians in 1970.
  • A fastball from Scherzer was hit barely over the center field wall by Cano in the first inning, allowing him to score a single home run.
  • 21, 2005, when he hit a three-run home run.
  • The Yankees defeated the Orioles 7-2.
  • Aaron Judge hit a 108.4 mph single off Baltimore’s Andrew Cashner, Giancarlo Stanton followed with a 120.6 mph single, and Luke Voit drove them both in with a three-run drive that left the bat at 112.6 mph and went an estimated distance of 428 feet.
  • Judge is in possession of the other.
  • Yadier Molina was batting fifth for the Cardinals against the Brewers on Opening Day, marking his 15th consecutive start behind the plate for the team.

When Milwaukee Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin hit a two-run home run against Milwaukee rival Miles Mikolas in the fifth inning, it became the 23rd occasion since 1908 that a pitcher has hit a home run on Opening Day.

He is the first Brewers pitcher to accomplish this feat and the second Milwaukee pitcher to do it, joining Hall of Famer Warren Spahn, who hit a home run in the Milwaukee Braves’ season-opening game in 1960.

After hitting a leadoff home run off Braves starter Julio Teheran, Andrew McCutchen got the Phillies’ season – and his own career – off to a fast start.

Cesar Hernandez of the Philadelphia Phillies hit former Reds pitcher Scott Feldman in the head to start the 2017 season.

Meadows and McCutchen each hit a leadoff home run on Thursday, making it the third time in the previous three MLB Opening Days that at least two games had a leadoff home run.

Prior to the start of the 2019 season, George Springer has hit a leadoff home run in each of the previous two seasons.

He and Khris Davis are both in the midst of active streaks of three straight seasons with an opening home run, which includes the current season.

The Twins defeated the Indians, 2 to 0.

The fourth-year pitcher became the first Twins pitcher since Jim Perry on April 7, 1970, to throw at least seven scoreless frames on Opening Day.

A slugging binge unlike any other team in MLB history occurred in this game, with the Dodgers hitting eight home runs in eight innings.

Los Angeles came within one huge fly of becoming only the second National League club (after the 1999 Reds) to go deep nine times in a single game.

As a result, the Angels were shut out on Opening Day for the fourth time in their franchise history, falling 4-0 to the Athletics, who had already played their Opening Day game the previous week in Japan.

The 2002 season ended up being rather successful for them, culminating in a World Series championship.

A perfect game was on the line for Zimmermann through 6 2/3 innings when Teoscar Hernandez broke it up with an infield single.

The only pitcher to complete an Opening Day no-hitter since Bob Feller did it in 1940 is Zimmermann, who is only the fifth pitcher to go that far in an attempt since that time.

didn’t waste any time in getting on the board.

Adding to his already outstanding stature, on Thursday, the top shortstop prospect turned 20 years and 85 days old, making him the youngest player to record a hit on Opening Day, in his first career game, since Ken Griffey Jr.

During his next opportunity, Tatis bunted his way to a single, joining Bobby Doerr of the 1937 Red Sox as the only players (since 1908) to record multiple hits on Opening Day in their major league debut at that young of an age.

Baez is only the seventh Cub to accomplish this feat, and he is the fifth shortstop to do it for any team in baseball history.

Derek Dietrich delivered the major blow in his Reds debut, launching a go-ahead, pinch-hit, three-run homer in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and pave the way for a 5-3 win over the White Sox.

1, 2010, it was the first time a Reds player had hit a pinch-hit home run that drove in at least three runs.

Including this year, the Rockies have hit a home run in 11 successive Opening Day games, which is the longest such streak in the National League’s history, breaking a tie with the Reds, who had done it in 10 straight from 1963 to 1972.

The Yankees hold the record for the longest such stretch, having gone 14 games without losing from 1999 to 2012.

Only nine players since at least 1908 – and only the third since 1951 – have hit two triples on Opening Day.

This feat was last accomplished by Houston’s Justin Maxwell in 2013, while the Royals’ Tony Pena accomplished the feat twice in 2007.

But he hit a home run off the Red Sox pitcher in his first at-bat, then he followed that up with another, for a total of two home runs against the Red Sox ace.

After Josh Donaldson (2017), Miguel Cabrera (16), Eric Hosmer (16), and Ryan Raburn (15), Beckham becomes the sixth player to smash two home runs in the same game against Sale.

MLB Opening Day 2019: Schedule, starting pitchers for Thursday

  • With all 30 clubs in play starting at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, the 2019 Major League Baseball season gets begun in earnest. The Yankees face the Orioles in the first game of the season. In spite of the fact that the Mariners and Athletics had played two legitimate games in Tokyo last week, Thursday will be the first time in franchise history that an Opening Day has been held before an overseas series. For the first time since 1974, Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer will face off on Opening Day for the Mets and Nationals, respectively. This will be only the second time in baseball history that two straight Cy Young Award winners will face off against one other. Blake Snell and Justin Verlander will face off in another Cy Young fight in Tampa Bay on Tuesday. It’s possible that Bryce Harper making his Phillies debut against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia will be the most talked-about story of the day.
