  • Among the baseball field materials available are Hoosier Mix field dirt, Field Conditioners, Alabama Red Clay, and Educational Resources, which include educational videos.

Let’s start with the most fundamental of all: field soil. It is recommended that the skinned portions of your field be composed of sand and clay based dirt down to a depth of at least 4 inches. We’ve come up with a solution. After deciding to go into the farming industry, we realized that we would have to design our own mix here in Indiana using local elements that would be able to match the consistency of the best 60-40 field mixes available on the market when we first started out. As a result, the distance would be near enough that the cost of transportation would be kept to a minimum and more schools and groups would be able to participate.

After purchasing the material in 2016, we began processing it in Walton by grinding it in a hammer mill and screening it via screens.

We’ve also discovered that a combination that is closer to 65 percent sand and 35 percent clay silt does not solidify nearly as much when exposed to the sun’s heat.

Hoosier Mix

Hoosier Mix is a cost-effective method of achieving a desired sand, clay, and silt mix using locally sourced Indiana resources. We mix our Hoosier Mix with around 60 – 65 percent sand and 40 – 35 percent clay / silt, depending on the application. It has a light brown tint to it. The technology has been utilized to entirely build, repair, or alter a number of fields around Indiana during the previous eight years. It is porous enough to allow water to percolate extremely well, and it hardens up nicely when used as a playing surface.

We can supply Hoosier Mix at extremely cheap costs over a large area of the state in either tri axel trucks or semi dump trailers, depending on the field location. We can deliver Hoosier Mix in either tri axel trucks or semi dump trailers.

The best dirt mix for your baseball field

DirtMix for your Baseball Field Goodfooting and good bounces – that’s what you want Choicesand DecisionsBeforeordering baseball dirt, answer these questions:What kind of dirt do you already have?Is it any good?Do you just need to add more? Or do you need to make significant changes to the dirt mix? Are you trying to correct any problems?See thedirtanalysisandcorrection sections for further information. Ask the playerssome questions or note your own observation:

  1. Is the field dirt surface hard enough, or do you slide and fall in it? Are the bounces about appropriate, or do they appear to be dying or bouncing too high? If so, are there any “poor bounce” locations that need to be addressed? Does the infield grass line have a lip that poses difficulty while fielding grounders?

Before you begin, ask yourself if you will be able to get delivery. Is it possible to obtain equipment to distribute, till, and roll it? Do you have any previous experience operating heavy equipment? It’s not difficult to learn, but having expert assistance makes the process move more quickly. Is it possible for the delivery vehicles to get access to your field? Here are some examples of dirt mixtures and products: a mixture of decomposed granite and 1/8 inch crushed brick used as a warning track topdressing: Littleleague uses 3-5 yards; high school uses 5-10 yards; both utilize 3-5 yards.

  1. topdressing sand Please specify G8 topdressing sand when ordering (golf course quality) The following materials can be used for filling in holes in fence areas or for general fill needs: recycled cement plant sand.
  2. It is made up of tiny stones.
  3. skin on the infield: (high school size 10-20 or more yards;little league size 5-10 yards) 50 percent broken red brick, 20 percent clay, and 30 percent soil are used in this recipe.
  4. 2 grains of sand The mound: a high school-sized mound created from scratch will require 5 tons of material, which will be covered with infield mix.
  5. Make use of 100 percent clay or unfired clay bricks topped with infield mix for your foundation.
  6. Areas the size of a secondary school will require 200 bricks.
  7. Despite the fact that it is inexpensive, this material is poor for playing on: it provides poor footing, is poor for moisture management, does not hold up during competitive play, and players get skinned up when they slide on it.

Suppliers and sources of supply Suppliers I’ve worked with and am pleased with include: bricks made of unfired clay MUDDOX BASEBALL MIX (infield and warning track) – Cascade Rock and Central Home – TNT Trucking is the preferred supplier of baseball mix (infield) for several professional baseball clubs.

Topdressing mixture for TNT trucks – Cascade Rock, in the heart of the city Sand of superior dressing quality is supplied.

Building a Granite Workbench Livingston Concrete uses recovered sand in their projects. Other vendors suggested by professional teams include: clay track with sand and gravel warnings – Hasty’s Sand and Gravelwarning track 1/8-inch lava brick that has been crushed TIPS AND HINTS FOR C L TRUCKING

  1. Ensure that the dirt mix you use does not stain white clothes excessively. Some of the more red-tinged combinations are particularly bad for uniforms, and they are nearly difficult to clean. More than one professional team has altered its lineup only to ensure that its jerseys remain clean. Never combine different soil kinds! Placing sand on the infield grass, clay on the mound, and a clay/sand combination on the infield soil are all good ideas. Separate the many types of soil in your dirt pits, such as clay, sand, and crumbled brick.

Mistakes to avoid at all costs

  1. Just because the park district or the supplier refers to it as “baseball mix” does not imply that it is in fact baseball mix. It’s possible that some of the false blends could blow away or that players will get skinned while sliding on them.
