What Can We Learn From a Cat Charging Into a Baseball Game?
Earlier this month, a cat made its way onto the baseball field at the end of a Yankees-Orioles game, which ended in a tie. Apparently, this is something that cats do. During a Dodgers-Rockies game in April, a scruffy gray one made his way onto Coors Field and into the stands. At Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2017, a wild cat raced onto the field before a grand slam won the Cardinals victory. The kitten, nicknamed Rally Cat, was later involved in a custody fight with the Cardinals’ owner, Michael Strasburg.
Agate-crashing cats have made headlines before, including the infamous Attack of the Killer Kitten in 1984 in which a gate-crashing cat bit the finger of the Seattle Kingdome groundskeeper who caught it, and the legendary Cubs-Mets Black Cat Incident of 1969, in which a black cat paced in front of the Cubs’ dugout and caused the Cubs to continue their losing streak (according to some).
Initial impressions of the cat during the game’s television broadcast are that it is a small source of distraction.
When the camera returns to the pitcher, there is some confusion: Are they just going to continue playing?
The cat is an incredible athlete. Watching it is like watching an Olympic event.
It is possible that the brain will not trust what it is witnessing during a crisis and will continue acting as if everything is normal. “The incredulity response” is the term used to describe this. The instant the cat is recognized, the focus of attention shifts away from the fabricated stakes of the game and toward the basic stakes that the cat is attempting to achieve. As the cat attempts to find its bearings, the audience begins to applaud enthusiastically. Suddenly, the cat leaps onto the outfield wall, and the audience erupts in applause.
- It sprints through the Orioles bullpen to a door and sits there, waiting to be let out.
- The cat trots along while the audience cries, “Go, cat, go!” as it passes.
- The audience erupts in applause.
- It constantly trying new things in order to achieve its goal, which is to get the heck out of this noisy, busy, and confusing environment.
- It’s similar to witnessing an Olympic sport.
- The cat is a sprinter, and he has a lot of speed.
- This cat, in contrast to the cat at Coors Field in April, did not need to take a break to collect its breath.
It is heard across the audience chanting, “Mvp, Mvp.” People applaud as the cat eludes the groundskeepers, even darting through the legs of one of the men when caught by them.
“It was truly terrifying,” Brown recalls of the experience.
This is something I don’t want to see again.” However, you find yourself wanting to see it again.
Everything about it is exciting — even more so than the game that everyone had gathered to see in the first place.
A number of viewers on YouTube stated that this was the most exciting portion of the game, and one individual reported that in the Maryland tavern where he watched the game, everyone was rooting for the animal to win.
In the same way that the cat video went viral, so did a few of other films showing seemingly ordinary scenarios being completely upended.
During another incident, a lady had a tantrum inside the Victoria’s Secret store in a New Jersey mall after she appeared to have attempted to assault another shopper before learning she was being videotaped.
Notably, the folks in her immediate vicinity continued to go about their business as usual, silently paying for their items.
The abrasive passenger was not the first to have his seat belt fastened using duct tape.
The fact that each of them emerges at a time when company owners and retail employees say that consumers are becoming exceptionally aggressive is significant: We can’t help but wonder whether some sort of fundamental derangement is taking place, given the surge of individuals caught up in global issues that their brains appear to be unable of dealing with and who are acting out in all the typical ways.
If only as progressively jaded viewers, we will all be drawn into this play of entitlement, uncertainty, unresolved wrath, and emerging mental-health problems, which will take place in our own backyards.
The cat has no sense of being disruptive, because it has no sense of living in a society.
Some people may believe that they are like the cat, with its primitive indifference for the game, the players, the supporters, broadcasters and television viewers. This may be true in their own minds. Perhaps people would identify with the cat’s behavior in these circumstances, thinking themselves as individuals against the world, victimized by its laws, employing agility and trickery, as well as the gifts of self-preservation, to battle any groundskeepers might attempt to confine them. It’s true that when I first saw the cat, my immediate instinct was that we might all learn something from it, especially given its ability to behave with such dignity even under the most bizarre of situations.
Motivation, competence, and self-determination are all outstanding characteristics of this organization.
It has no feeling of being disruptive because it has no understanding of what it means to be a member of a community.
It is unable to decipher the announcers’ expressions of concern because it lacks the necessary information.
The more I observed this cat’s struggle, the more I became aware of another gratifying aspect of it: the collective reaction of the people in the audience.
Perhaps if the cat was fantastic, a full stadium acting like a community, or even like a civilisation, was truly remarkable.
