Is My Method Sustainable?

No. Eventually, and preferably soon, the world will revert to its previous state of affairs. Traveling, seeing friends, attending baseball games, and other activities will occupy my leisure time. This is the primary reason why my One Million Cubs Project objective was pushed at the end of 2020, and why I am concentrating on my eBay sales for the first quarter of 2021 instead. I’m taking advantage of the time I have available and will have to revise my sales plan before the end of the summer. However, for the time being, selling 99 cent cards on eBay is a worthwhile investment of my time.

Those in the business of dealing will have tools and methods at their disposal that go much beyond what I’ll cover in this article.

1. Use a scanner!

As a result, I am unable to scan my cards, which results in the ultimate do as I say, not as I do situation. You may avoid this issue by placing a colorful sheet of paper on top of your credit card before scanning it in. 3. Pay attention to when your auction will end

In my post on purchasing, I discuss how auctions that conclude while the majority of bidders are asleep or otherwise occupied are less likely to sell for their full worth. If you want to prevent being on the receiving end of this, schedule your auction finish hours in advance. By default, if you advertise your auction at 3 a.m., it will conclude at 3 a.m., which is a poor time. Plan your sale for a time when purchasers on both the west and east coasts will be awake and alert.

4. Research the sold listings

Sellers make the rookie error of scrolling through comparable Buy It Now ads before determining how much to charge for their cards. What they don’t comprehend is that the cards they’re looking at are exactly the ones that are pricey in the first place. After all, it is for this reason why they remain unsold! In the same way, if you price your card similarly, it will most likely go unsold as well. The prices shown under the Sold listings are the proper pricing to look at, even if they don’t elicit the same degree of dollar signs in your eyes as those listed under the Active listings.

5. Be sure buyers know your card is authentic

It’s not a big deal if you’re selling a 1980 Topps Garry Templeton card, but the more valuable the card, the greater the likelihood that purchasers would suspect it is a fake. If your card has been graded by PSA, SGC, or Beckett, you’re most likely safe in this section. For those selling raw 1959 Topps Mickey Mantle cards, there are still a few things you can do to instill trust in purchasers so they will be willing to pay full price.

  • Create an Original listing, ensure authenticity, and accept return requests. Not all buyers are aware of this, but eBay will assist them in obtaining a refund if they purchase a counterfeit or reprint card that is labeled as “Original.” As a result, providing your own guarantee and/or return policy might make purchasers feel more secure. Provide whatsoever degree of provenance you are able to, but it must be accurate! The words “found these in my grandfather’s storage locker!” set off all sorts of alarm bells in my head. Having a large number of other items, including those in your Sold listings, that are almost certainly genuine can give you more confidence in your abilities. Consider the following scenario: a seller has a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron RC on the market, and their only other listings are 1952 Topps Mantle, T206 Wagner, and a 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente on the market. 6. Provide great service and build up your positive feedback

Following up on the previous point, many buyers use seller feedback when assessing whether or not a listing may be trusted. If your very first eBay listing is for $500, the fact that you have zero feedback will frighten away potential customers. Making multiple additional sales first will allow you to build up a positive feedback rating and a track record of sold listings, which will boost your credibility in the eyes of purchasers. This is a true tale. It was a collection of antique Lou Brock trading cards that I sold on eBay as my very first transaction.

After the deal was completed, I received word from the buyer that the cards had not been delivered.

Was the buyer speaking the truth in the first place?

When I offered to refund the purchase price, I was met with what I considered to be an illogical argument: the buyer believed he had purchased around $30 worth of cards, and hence a $6 refund seemed insufficient.

My Brock singles were packaged in a bubble mailer and mailed with tracking information. While I did lose several excellent Lou Brock cards as a result of the procedure, I was able to keep my rating intact and have since sold numerous items in the $50-200 area.

7. Be sure your listing title is strong

The title of your listing influences whether or not buyers will be able to see your item in their searches. If your listing is for a 2016 Topps Cubs Team Set, you will attract the attention of Cubs collectors, for example. Buyers looking for a 2016 Kris Bryant, on the other hand, will not find your listing while searching for one. It’s preferable to state “2016 Topps Cubs team set – Bryant, Rizzo, Baez,.” instead of “2016 Topps Cubs team set – Rizzo, Baez,.” You will also want to be extremely careful to avoid making any typographical errors.

8. Boost your listing

As long as you are not violating the rules and norms of your collecting community, sharing your listing with your community can be beneficial. For example, if you are a member of a baseball card forum, Baseball Card Twitter, or a Facebook group, it can be beneficial to share your listing with your community. This type of activity not only increases the number of people who see your listing, but it also attracts customers who are more likely to trust you since you are a member of the community.

9. Don’t be afraid to start your auction at $0.01

I’ll admit that this has backfired on me a few of times, but on the whole, auctions tend to wind up at least in the neighborhood of a reasonable price more frequently than not. Starting at a low price will attract more buyers to bid or add your card to their watch lists, but starting at a price that is close to your card’s true value will encourage buyers to browse down the page. The advantage of a $0.01 auction is that numerous purchasers may enter the bidding before the price reaches a dollar or even a couple of dollars.

10. Sell singles vs lots

In my post on purchasing, I suggest that some of the finest prices may be found on large quantities of merchandise. Sellers, on the other hand, fare the worst in this situation. It saves a lot of time to gather all of your extra Nolan Ryan cards and sell them all at the same time. The majority of purchasers, on the other hand, will bid or offer depending on the worth of the best card or the limited number of cards that they truly require. There is no need to make individual listings for each item in your lot unless the extras are of little or no worth.
